I probably could’ve negotiated better, but every investment was strategically planned to ensure long-term profitability. The local community has quickly embraced Gourav’s location, and many have become regulars. In fact, Gourav’s store has seen customers from the neighboring Rudy’s restaurant, which is just 150 feet away, coming in weekly, with some spending up to $150 per month at his location.

While his current focus is on ensuring the success of his first location, he and Gary are already looking at opening additional stores in the coming years. “We are optimistic about the future. If everything continues going well, we may open two or three more locations. Our goal is to double our success,” says Gourav.

A: It’s been a journey of growth and learning. Our full-service location in Casper has been especially rewarding. The community appreciates the dine-in experience, especially after the isolation of COVID. It’s been fulfilling to bring something unique to the area.

Q: What makes your Casper location unique?
A: Casper is one of the few full-service Dickey’s locations in the country. While some customers were initially surprised by the concept, they’ve come to love the full-service experience. It offers a more relaxed dining atmosphere, which the community has embraced wholeheartedly.

Q: What previous experience did you bring to Dickey’s?
A: I’ve managed multiple businesses across various industries, from retail to distribution. I also helped grow a small restaurant in Arizona into a chain of five locations. Jessica and I saw franchising with Dickey’s as a chance to apply our skills to a business we could call our own.

Q: What challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them?
A: Like any restaurant, managing food costs and labor are ongoing challenges. However, by fostering a culture of success and reducing turnover, we’ve built a strong, loyal team. Many of our employees have been with us for three or more years, which is rare in this industry.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in franchising?
A: Understand your numbers inside and out. Franchising isn’t just about following the playbook; it’s about learning how all the pieces fit together to drive success. Take the time to dive deep into the details of your business operations.

A: While our initial training experience had room for improvement, I’ve heard that it has since been revamped and is much better now. For us, it was more about leveraging our prior experience and learning on the job.

A: For now, we’re focused on solidifying the success of our three locations and one additional restaurant we own. Growth is always a possibility, but only if the timing and opportunity align perfectly.

“Our turnover rate is significantly lower than industry averages,” Travis shared. “Some employees have been with us since we took over nearly four years ago. By fostering an environment where people can succeed, we’ve created a loyal, dedicated team.”
